Scaling Solar Senegal Reaches Commercial Close

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, Senegal’s National Electricity Company (SENELEC) and Kahone Solaire and Kael Solaire, established by FONSIS, MERIDIAM and ENGIE, signed the Power Purchase Agreements for two projects under the Scaling Solar program. With this, the two projects with a total capacity of 60MW have reached a commercial close.

Back in April of this year, the results of the competitive tender process set a new benchmark for the region. With prices under 4 US cents per kWh, solar energy will become Senegal’s cheapest energy source.
